BT817Q
EVE4 displays are IPS TFT modules built around Bridgetek BT817Q, the 4th generation Embedded Video Engine. They are designed for MCU-based HMIs that need display-side graphics processing instead of a video input.

Introduction to EVE4 series displays
EVE4 still needs an external host MCU, but not for pixel rendering. The MCU sends commands, display lists and assets to BT817Q. The controller renders the GUI, processes touch, drives audio and uses built-in flash for graphic assets.

STM32 is a standalone option – runs the application on the display. HDMI and USB-C need a video source; High Brightness IPS is a bare TFT panel. EVE4 sits between them.
As Tomasz Soldat, CTO at Riverdi, puts it: “The important question is not whether EVE4 can render the GUI. It can. The question is where you want the application to live. If the logic should stay on the host MCU, BT817Q is the right architecture.”

Compared with EVE3, EVE4 gives more display headroom. BT817Q supports resolutions up to 1280×800 px, while EVE3 stays at up to 800×480 px. EVE4 also adds ASTC compression and 2x Pixel Mode.
For older EVE projects, the EVE3 to EVE4 migration is the right next step.
Key features of BT817Q displays
The category covers 33 variants from 3.5″ to 12.1″. All use IPS TFT LCD panels, Bridgetek BT817Q controller, SPI/QSPI communication and work in -20°C to +70°C. Brightness reaches 1000 cd/m² depending on variant.
ASTC reduces memory use for graphic assets, 2x Pixel Mode improves refresh. The audio amplifier removes a separate audio circuit for simple feedback. Modules are available with industrial touchscreen or without touch, depending on the input architecture.
If the display will work in strong ambient light, choose optical bonding (in-house). Air bonding is the simpler option for indoor designs where readability is not a problem. uxTouch mounts from the outside for a flat front panel; aTouch mounts from the inside into an existing cutout.
Low EMI design matters when the display sits in a device going through certification. The module is part of the EMC risk, not only the GUI.

All EVE4 models use RiBUS, Riverdi’s common connector for intelligent displays. It keeps power, communication and GPIO on one interface, so size changes do not force a wiring redesign.
Within the wider Riverdi portfolio, EVE3 remains the option for simpler WVGA projects. STM32 embedded displays are the standalone alternative when the application should run on the display module.
Applications of EVE4 series displays
Industrial HMIs and operator panels are usually in the 7″ to 12.1″ range. Medical and laboratory devices often move to 10.1″ or 12.1″ with optical bonding. For vending machines and dispensers, 5″ or 7″ is usually enough. EV chargers need 7″ to 10.1″ high-brightness PCAP modules, while IoT controls and smart home panels stay closer to 4.3″ or 5″.

Rugged and military projects use the EVE4 displays tuned for mechanical and optical stress: industrial PCAP, high brightness, strengthened cover glass and front-panel sealing.
Riverdi EVE4 series display manufacturer
Riverdi has manufactured display modules in Europe since 2012, giving EVE4 projects a European supplier for standard modules, customization and production support. The company develops this series with Bridgetek, the BT817Q controller manufacturer.

Standard EVE4 modules are available without MOQ and through global distributors: DigiKey, Mouser, RS Components and TME. Components are selected for long-term industrial availability, including a 10+ year lifecycle.
Riverdi supports engineering changes through its customized solutions: PCB, housing, brightness, cover glass, bonding and mechanics can be adapted to the project. Optical bonding is done in-house.
