From 8 weeks to 4: an urgent industrial display customization request

A U.S.-based manufacturer of industrial equipment faced an unplanned end-of-life on a display component, with no time built into their schedule for a standard sourcing cycle. They selected one of our standard, readily available models but meeting their required environmental sealing meant re-engineering a key component. The result: a tailored solution, delivered at standard-product speed.

1

Challenge — an urgent need, no time for a standard process

The client’s existing display component reached end-of-life without warning – and with production already underway, there was no time in the schedule for a standard sourcing cycle. The client needed industrial-grade displays on an urgent timeline. They chose one of our standard, off-the-shelf models but meeting the required IP rating meant re-engineering the display’s sealing for their specific application, turning what looked like a stock order into a custom job.

2

Solution — a standard product, custom-engineered where it mattered

We kept the base display unchanged and focused engineering effort exactly where it counted: the sealing. Because we maintain ready access to the sealing components and materials needed for common IP rating requirements, our team could move directly into redesign and validation, without waiting for a new supply chain to be set up. Our team redesigned it to meet the client’s IP65 rating requirement, without altering the rest of the display or triggering a lengthy custom-development cycle. The result: delivery in 4 weeks, compared with a typical lead time of around 8 weeks for comparable custom work.

A note on customization: IP rating is just one of many parameters we routinely adapt — others include optical bonding, connector types, and mechanical fit. A single specialized requirement doesn’t have to mean starting from zero.

3

Approach — why IP rating requirements often mean customization

In industrial environments, dust, moisture, and mechanical stress make sealing one of the most safety-critical display specifications. Even an otherwise “standard” display often can’t meet a specific IP rating out of the box the sealing needs to be engineered for the exact use case. This is where projects that look straightforward on paper turn into real engineering work, and where lead times can stretch if the supplier isn’t equipped to handle it efficiently.

4

Result & Takeaways — 2x faster delivery on a custom solution

The client received a solution engineered specifically for their environmental requirements, delivered in the time frame they’d expect for a stock product.

The takeaway: a single specialized requirement doesn’t have to mean a custom-project timeline — if your display partner already has the right building blocks in place.
