What are LCD displays?
LCD displays use liquid crystals to modulate light from a backlight, rather than emit light directly. Riverdi IPS TFT modules typically use high-brightness transmissive panels and can be configured depending on the product variant.
TFT display is the active-matrix LCD technology. It gives pixel-level control for color GUI, brightness and predictable response. IPS keeps the LCD screen readable off-axis. As Tomasz Soldat, Riverdi CTO, explains: “We use IPS TFT LCD because industrial displays rarely work in perfect viewing conditions. IPS gives stable readability at an angle, in strong ambient light and after integration with touch, cover glass and bonding.”

Riverdi LCD displays cover 500 to 1400 cd/m², RGB, LVDS, MIPI DSI, SPI, QSPI, I²C, HDMI and USB-C interfaces. Engineers can choose optical or air bonding. Displays operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +70°C.
What are the types of LCD displays?
For outdoor designs, the question is not only transmissive versus transmissive versus transflective LCD . The choice covers the full range of panel types.
TN panels are fast and cost-efficient, with limited viewing angles and color stability. VA panels offer higher contrast and deeper blacks. STN and FSTN fit monochrome instruments and simple graphic modules, where low power matters more than full-color GUI performance.

Compared with OLED, LCD TFT is usually the safer industrial choice for static UI elements, high brightness requirements, long operating hours and long production cycles.

This LCD category includes all brightness levels. If your project needs high brightness (especially for outdoor terminals) you can check the HB IPS subgroup to narrow down the selection.
Where can LCD displays be used?
Riverdi LCD displays are used both as integrated embedded modules and as plug-and-play HDMI or USB-C screens, depending on the host architecture and integration model.
Industrial HMI panels use LCD displays as operator interfaces for machines, production lines and control cabinets. One product family may use anything from a compact module to a 15.6″ screen.
Medical and laboratory devices typically use 10.1″ and 12.1″ LCD displays for patient data, measurement results, device status and control screens, where front integration and long component availability matter more than minimum panel cost.
EV chargers, outdoor terminals, POS terminals and kiosks usually use 7″ to 10.1″ LCD displays. These applications need a readable sealed front, reliable touch operation and a stack that can sit behind protective glass.
Smart home, IoT, building automation and HVAC panels often use 5″ to 7″ displays for room controllers, wall panels, access systems and local control.

Riverdi LCD display manufacturer
Riverdi has been designing and manufacturing displays in Europe since 2012. Standard LCD modules are available globally through DigiKey, Mouser, RS Components and TME. This consistency helps teams maintain a unified display strategy across their entire product line.
This matters during prototyping and production planning. Standard LCD displays are available without MOQ, so teams can validate the interface, mechanics and front stack before committing to volume. When the standard module is not enough, Riverdi can adjust the display through customized solutions, including brightness, cover glass, bonding, mechanics and interface.

Riverdi does optical bonding in-house, so the LCD, touch sensor and cover glass work as one front stack. This improves readability, front strength and integration behind protective glass. Component longevity of 10+ years reduces the risk of forced redesigns in long-life industrial devices.
