TN technology and the problem of viewing angles
Most of the display solutions today, meant for industrial use, are TFTs and LCDs based on Twisted Nematic (TN) technology. But how does TN technology work?
It employs nematic liquid crystals positioned between two surfaces of glass substrates coated with transparent ITO (Indium tin oxide). These plates of ITO are covered with alignment layers that rub in the same direction. So, when voltage is applied, the molecules start aligning along the electric field. In the end, TN technology takes advantage of the ability of the nematic crystals to rotate the polarization of light passing through it.
In fact, TN technology is well-known and reliable. It has a wide temperature range, sufficiently fast pixel response and, what is the big dominance on the market, cost-effectiveness.
However, TN suffers from limited viewing angles, and a phenomenon called gray scale inversion.
O-film solves the problem
Thankfully our team has found a solution to overcome gray scale inversion in displays.
How did we accomplish this?
By changing the structure of LCD TFT and altering the top polarizer with a special film that widens viewing angles. Or as we like to call it – O-film.
As you can see in the image below, by using the O-film, the gray scale inversion has disappeared and the viewing angles have become wider.
